With three bank holidays on the horizon and a change of seasons in the air, now is the time thoughts turn to the big spring clean.
If you want somebody else to get their hands dirty while you enjoy the extra days off, there are several new apps and services to help you make your home sparkle.
Cleaning: Fantastic Services
There are several companies offering on demand domestic cleaning bookable via an app, online or over the phone with rates and services largely ranging from a one-off deep clean to regular touch ups.
If spring clichés of romance and procreation are inspiring you, however, Fantastic Services stands out from the crowd with its “Mucky to Lucky” package, launched by the company in response to a surge in bookings from single men.
Apparently the service, which combines an hour of DIY with three hours’ of cleaning as well as finishing touches such as providing fresh coffee beans or putting champagne in the fridge, has proved particularly popular with north London lotharios looking to “turn a man-cave into a stylish bachelor pad, ready for that ‘coffee at my place?’ moment.”
The “Mucky to Lucky” package costs £99. For further information, visit www.fantasticservices.com or book via the GoFantastic app.
Decluttering can be a mammoth job if you’re not ruthless enough take all your Christmas presents to the charity shop on Boxing Day.
Once you’ve completed a major clearout, the last thing you want is to be lumbered with all that junk while waiting for the council to take it away, or the charity shop to open.
Many Londoners also don’t own a car, making it expensive and difficult to take things to the tip. West Hampstead-based firm KwikSweep offers a clearance service for all unwanted junk.
A two-man team with van can be booked for an appointed time, will clear all unwanted items including furniture, electrical appliances, clothes, carpet and anything else, and then clear up after themselves. They also recycle more than 80 per cent of waste.
Prices start from around £50 for a two man team. For further information visit www.kwiksweep.com or telephone 0207 624 9215.
The changing of the seasons is the ideal time to clean and put away winter clothes and revisit your warm weather wardrobe (fingers crossed).
Clear the mountain of dirty laundry and save time on trips to the dry cleaner with new app Laundrapp, which offers a comprehensive laundry and dry cleaning service along with free collection and delivery to any London address (meaning that sweaty cyclists could get fresh shirts delivered to the office, for example).
They also offer ironing and quilt and duvet cleaning alongside wash and fold laundry (charged by weight) and shirt laundering, from £2 per shirt. The service also operates at weekends.
Prices start from £15 for 8kg wash and fold, or £8 for five shirts. For further information visit laundrapp.com or download the app.
