What’s special about your agency?
Our longevity, our approachability, our love for and support of our local community. We arrange and sponsor the Belsize Village Christmas lights, flower baskets and a number of other local events.
Where do you live and with whom?
I live on Belsize Park Gardens, with me, myself and I.
Why did you buy your current property? Whats your favourite thing about it?
It’s small but perfectly formed, plus it’s got a sunny balcony, high ceilings, garden views and I can walk to the office.
If you werent an estate agent what would you be?
I love nature, animals, sport and gastronomy, so an equine vet, a ski instructor, a master of wine or a master chef... or all of the above.
When did you buy your first property and what was it like?
In 1984 for �£33,000. It was a one-bedroom flat with high ceilings and a garden for my cat.
What’s your dream house?
A modern minimalist property with a big view of mountains, ocean or lakes.
How long have you been an estate agent? Whats the most shocking/surprising thing youve seen on the job?
Nearly 30 years, ouch! That long!! The most shocking thing, apart from the occasional lack of professional integrity in our industry, is the way house price inflation in central London has far out paced personal income. It’s virtually impossible for the current post-university generation to get a foothold in London. I would never be able to afford my own modest property at today’s values.
How has the local property market changed since you started out?
Lack of stock, which means lack of choice. I have seen a huge increase in demand for property counter balanced with a severe decrease of available stock for sale. In the 1990s we used to take applicants on ‘tours’ of multiple properties. Now we hold an ‘open day’ mass viewing for most new instructions and an informal auction takes place.
What are the most common mistakes clients make?
Not taking the advice of their very established local agents on the big issues such as the correct asking price and timing.
What are your top tips for the local area?
I am a bit biased as it’s my birth city, but NW3 has so much to offer. The unique blend of village and city, country and culture, trendy and historic, vibrant and calm.
