The worlds of science and art don’t often mix but pupils at one of Camden’s top schools have found a way to merge the two by writing scientific Haiku poems for a new book.
More than 100 students at Camden School for Girls in Sandall Road, Kentish Town, penned about 400 three-line verses on topics ranging from electricity and white blood cells to lessons with the school’s science teachers.
They will be published on November 20 in Sciku: The Wonder of Science in Haiku, with proceeds raising money to refurbish the school’s 1960s science laboratories.
Science teacher Simon Flynn, who co-edited the book with English teacher Karen Scott and an editorial team of teenagers, said: “It has made them feel proud of themselves and proud of the school.”
The book will be available online and in local independent bookshops.
