A WOMAN whose son has been missing since September 28 has made an impassioned plea for her son to get in touch.

Ann Gavin last saw her 36-year-old son John Gavin when he left her Hewitt Road home in Harringay, at about 2pm on Monday 28 September.

She spoke to her son from his mobile phone shortly before 6pm that day but she has not heard from him since.

Mrs Gavin said: "Please get in touch. We are so worried about you and your family wants you home."

Mr Gavin is about 6ft to 6ft 2" tall, of slim build and he may have difficulty walking.

When he left his mother's home he was wearing blue jeans, a blue fleece sweater and brown leather jacket.

Police are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Gavin's welfare as it is not known if he has money, food or shelter. They say his lack of contact is out of character.

Detective Inspector Steve Dryden from Haringey's Missing Persons Unit said: "It has been over a week since anyone heard from with Mr Gavin and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare. His lack of contact is out of character and his family are worried about him. We ask that he makes contact, which can be done through the Missing People confidential hotline."

It is believed that he may have travelled to the East Sussex area, where police have received an unconfirmed sighting, but it is not now known where he might be.

Det Insp Dryden urged Mr Gavin to call the Missing People's confidential service Message Home on Freefone 0800 700 740 for advice and support.

Anyone who sees Mr Gavin or who knows of his whereabouts is asked to call Haringey Police on 0300 123 1212 quoting CAD 623/29SEPT or ring Missing People on 0500 700 700.
