A woman remains in hospital following a collision on a busy high street.

Paramedics including two single responders, London Air Ambulance and an incident response officer were called to Tottenham Lane in Crouch End at 2.57pm on Wednesday.

Police cordoned off the route and traffic was diverted while medics treated the 69-year-old, whom eyewitnesses have said was crossing the road at the time of the collision.

According to officers her condition is critical but stable. The next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

Clare Rogers, a mother who witnessed the aftermath, said: “I feel horrified. It is so sad that the simple act of crossing the road can result in this kind of thing.

“That street is so dominated by traffic. My daugher and I feel vulnerable whenever we cross,” she added.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We treated a woman at the scene for a head injury and took her, as a priority, to a major trauma centre.”

Since the collision police have launched an appeal for witnesses. Anyone who can help is asked to call Alperton Traffic Garage on 0208 991 9555, or police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
