Wingate & Finchley held Conference South new boys Wealdstone to a 1-1 draw on Saturday as they recovered their pre-season form following two successive defeats.

The Blues lost Rob Laney to a head injury after 30 minutes, but his replacement Adam Bolle had an immediate impact, scoring the opening goal for the hosts just four minutes after coming on.

It was a classy finish from Bolle, who received a clever pass from Tommy Tejan-Sie and beat his man just inside the penalty area before shooting low past keeper Warren Carter.

After the break, Leon Fisher struck the crossbar from 30 yards with a ferocious arrowing drive –but the Stones responded with a goal from Wes Parker, who bundled home from a corner.

W&F went on to visit Potters Bar on Tuesday, and an excellent first-half performance laid the foundation for a 3-1 win.

New signing David Knight opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Laney added a second on the half-hour mark.

Knight struck again before the break, volleying powerfully into the bottom left corner, while Potters Bar got one back on 65 minutes.

Meanwhile, Hendon’s busy pre-season schedule resulted in one win, one draw and two defeats.

The Greens beat Leverstock Green 5-0 last Thursday thanks to goals from Casey Maclaren, Kezie Ibe, Leon Smith and a double from Lee O’Leary.

A 2-0 defeat away to Uxbridge on Saturday was followed by a goalless draw at home against Chesham United on Monday – and then another defeat at the hands of Northwood on Tuesday night.

Northwood were 2-0 up at half-time before Michael Murray scored an excellent free-kick for Hendon.
