He is quite possibly the most famous and most recognisable detective of them all - and Universal Playback has the case all sown up for Christmas with Columbo: The Complete Series 1-10 on DVD from 19 October 2009.
An unlikely crime-solving genius but foolishly under-estimated by police and criminal alike, Columbo's ability to solve impossible cases makes this classic show so addictive to watch. He has become an enduring and beloved character in popular culture. Forever clad in a dishevelled raincoat and chewing a cigar, Columbo seems as scatterbrained as his appearance would suggest. However, even when it appears that his investigation is going nowhere, Columbo's keen mind is consuming details and clues, until finally and inevitably he reveals he knows everything that's happened.
Each episode famously opens with an ingenious murder, followed by Columbo's investigation and finally his revelation of how he put the plot together. The show was ground-breaking for this clever dramatic device as much for Peter Falk's enchanting portrayal of the detective. Almost every episode begins by showing the crime, so with no "whodunit" element, the plot revolves around how the guilty will finally be exposed.
To celebrate the DVD release of Columbo: The Complete Series we have teamed up with Universal Playback to offer 1 lucky reader the chance to win the boxset on DVD!
