Montpellier centre-back Emir Spahic is confident he could be the man to solve Arsenal’s defensive crisis.

The Bosnia captain, pictured, claims he was denied a move to the Emirates in the summer, but added: “If Arsenal were interested again I could not say no. In the summer Montpellier were not interested in selling me because the manager did not want to weaken the team.

“But I hope that something could happen in the next 7-10 days. Arsenal would be something really special for me personally.”

However, the Germany international Per Metersacker says he will reject any advances from Arsenal as he has 18 months left on his contract at Werder Bremen. He told Kreiszeitung: “In certain situations, players should protect themselves by not losing track of the most important things in their job.”
