A new education programme allowing mothers in West Hampstead to study close to their homes has celebrated a 100 per cent success rate.
Sidings Community Centre struck a partnership with Westminster Kingsway College to send a tutor to teach accredited courses at the centre, with child care offered on the side.
Last Wednesday, the Mayor of Camden, Cllr Lazzaro Pietragnoli, attended a celebratory lunch at the centre, handing out awards to 19 women who had just received their certificates in a Children and Young People’s Workforce course.
Sue Measures, centre manager, said: “For many local women who are mothers, living in the north-west tip of Camden makes it difficult to attend mainstream colleges. [This] demonstrates accredited courses can be successfully rooted in the heart of the community.”
