A West Hampstead beautician who serves as a bomb-disposal expert for the Army Reserves has been decorated for giving more than 10 years’ “exemplary service” to her country.
Sapper Rene Coba-Castillo, who serves with Ilford’s 217 Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Search Squadron, was awarded the medal in front of a number of dignitaries at the Army Reserve Centre in Ilford.
The 42-year-old has been a reservist for 16 years and has taken part in numerous exercises both in the UK and overseas.
Lt-Col Eldon Millar, Commanding Officer of 33 Engineer Regiment, was host of the awards ceremony which celebrated more than 80 years of combined reserve service.
He said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity to recognise the considerable dedication, commitment and service of our reservists.”
