What brought you to Highgate?

I moved to Muswell Hill in 1992 to attend Mountview Theatre School and met someone, fell in love, moved (all the way to Crouch End), then broke up and needed somewhere quickly and found a very petitte flat in Hornsey Lane. I haven’t moved far since!

What’s your favourite thing about Highgate?

It’s the amazing view of the city from the top of Waterlow Park, especially on a clear day. And of course Lauderdale House, which I consider my second home in Highgate!

What makes you smile on your way home?

Coming home to the flat I’ve lived in in Cromwell Avenue for nearly five years with my partner. Two years ago we had the flat, in Victorian maids’ quarters under the eaves, renovated. It’s now a cosy place to come home to. It’s like being in a permanent period film set, living in Cromwell Avenue.

If you were mayor for a day, what would you change about Highgate?

The traffic in Highgate Hill and the Archway Road. I would install a cable car to carry passengers up and down instead of buses.

How would you spend your perfect Sunday in Highgate?

Listening to West End performers sing their hearts out and bare their souls for Cabaret in the House on Sunday afternoons in the Long Gallery at Lauderdale House is a joy. Next, I’d head off for a bite in the village and then I’d head off to The Victoria Pub for the sing-a-long with Anita – great atmosphere.

As guest editor of the Ham&High for a day, what would you report on?

Pollution and getting parents and children from the Highgate private schools to come on foot or by public transport, not in their gas-guzzling tanks.

In a film about your life, who would play you?

An American musical theatre comedy actor called Nathan Lane. However he may struggle with my rough northern accent.
