A piece of Arsenal history was made in the 81st minute of Saturday's game against Blackburn when Jack Wilshere replaced Robin van Persie to become the youngest ever Gunner to appear in the league.

Aged just 16 years and 256 days, Wilshere beat Gerry Ward's record, set in 1953, by 65 days.

"I bring English players through slowly," quipped Wenger.
