FIONA Bruce has topped a poll of the nation's favourite female newsreaders with whom we'd like to share a nightcap.

Many a head has been turned in Belsize Park by the leggy BBC anchorwoman, and now it's official. Ms Bruce beat off the likes of Natasha Kaplinsky to gain 27 per cent of the vote for who we'd most like to share a late night glass of wine with.

Leading male in the survey by Yellow Tail wines was hard-talking Jeremy Paxman, closely followed by veteran Sir Trevor MacDonald.

"It's no surprise Jeremy Paxman and Fiona Bruce came top as they're intellectually stimulating, interesting people - they'd certainly be able to tell us a thing or two," said marketing director Libby Nutt.

Unfortunately, the demands of bringing up two children and sitting behind the desk at the Ten O'Clock News every night mean feisty Fiona is rarely seen in local watering holes. So the chances of propositioning her for a glass of vino at last orders will be few and far between.
