SOME 15 years ago, when you could picnic freely on the grass to the west of the Kenwood concert site, I was with a group of friends admiring the starlit sky as the concert was about to end. What's that up there? A police helicopter? Too high in the sky - maybe it's a weather balloon or a satellite? It appeared to remain stationary, then as the applause died down, shot up into the night sky at such speed that we eliminated the possibility of civil aircraft. "Did you see that!'' shouted other concert goers, as it raced in the direction of East Finchley.
Maybe we shouldn't have blamed the sighting on the effects of the summer wine after all.
