Volunteers give Queen’s Park youth centre a rainbow makeover

Volunteers from an investment management firm traded in their pens for paint rollers to help give a youth centre a badly-needed makeover.
The Avenues Youth Club was left with a brand-new look after workers for Capital Group Companies got busy to splash some colour on the walls in Third Avenue, Queen’s Park.
They used paint donated by the Dulux Let’s Colour Project, which offers a helping hand to community groups and charities in the UK to brighten up their lives.
The club, which has 200 members and has been providing out-of-school activities for young people in the surrounding area since 1979, boasts a recording studio and radio room, which the youngsters use to broadcast local radio station Avenues FM.
The centre was transformed after club chairman Fabian Sharp nominated the project online. He said: “The music rooms have been completely transformed and they look so much better than they ever did before. The first group of youngsters to see the makeover were absolutely thrilled, which made the work so worthwhile.
“We couldn’t have expected the project to go any better and we’re so grateful for all the help and advice we received from Dulux Decorator Centres. Hundreds of youth club members will continue to benefit from the transformation for years to come.”
Opened with the aim of integrating different communities in the deprived neighbourhood, Avenues Youth Club offers various spaces for members to use, including a dance studio, kitchen and hall alongside the radio room and recording studio.
Barry Bloomfield, store manager of Dulux Decorator Centres in Hammersmith, which donated the paint, said: “Helping such a great project to impact so many young lives in the local community was an absolute pleasure. We hope the club members will make the most of their new surroundings when making their music both now and in the future.”
