A nurse who cared for war victims in Vietnam, Cambodia and Lebanon was the guest of honour at a party to thank hard-working volunteers in the care industry.
Anne Watts, who wrote a memoir of her experiences in Always the Children, spoke of the challenges in providing enough activities for care home residents at the event at Highgate School’s Mills Centre in Bishopswood Road, Highgate.
The night was staged by charity Keeping in Touch (KIT), which helps older people stay connected with family and friends.
Chairman Jeremy Morris, of Lyndale Avenue, Childs Hill, said: “We have 130 volunteers and it’s very important that they feel part of a team, and it’s a way of saying thank you to them.”
