A young man has died after being struck by a falling shop sign in Camden Town today.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, was injured when the William Hill sign struck him in Camden Road, near Camden Town station, just before 5pm.
Ambulance crews fought to save his life but the man died in hospital a short while later.
Nearby shop workers told of the distressing scenes after the man was injured outside William Hill betting shop.
Ioana Nita, 21, who works in Woody Grill next door, said: “I’m shocked, my colleague she was crying. We heard something very bad, noise, then we went outside.

“There was a guy just lying on the floor. He was just lying down he couldn’t move he was covered in blood, it was shocking.
“A lot of people surrounded him then the ambulance arrived. They were trying to get him back to life.

“Then they took him in the ambulance. They were pressing on his chest, I don’t think he survived though.”
She added: “The sign is huge. I crossed there every day, that could have been me. I just don’t understand it.
“I just want to pray for his family. This is so sad.”
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a man had been injured just before 5pm.
Police believe the man, who has not yet been named, received his injuries after being struck by a sign or board which had fallen from a building.
A spokesman from William Hill said: “Following the tragic events in Camden, William Hill is extending full co-operation to the authorities as they seek to understand the circumstances leading to this deeply regrettable and unforeseen accident.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences and sympathy to the family for their loss.”
