A young man has died after being struck by a falling shop sign in Camden Town today.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was injured when the William Hill sign struck him in Camden Road, near Camden Town station, just before 5pm.

Nearby shop workers told of the distressing scenes after the man was injured outside William Hill betting shop.

Ioana Nita, 21, who works in Woody Grill next door, said: “I’m shocked, my colleague she was crying. We heard something very bad, noise, then we went outside.

“There was a guy just lying on the floor. He was just lying down he couldn’t move he was covered in blood, it was shocking.

“A lot of people surrounded him then the ambulance arrived. They were trying to get him back to life.

“Then they took him in the ambulance. They were pressing on his chest, I don’t think he survived though.”

She added: “The sign is huge. I crossed there every day, that could have been me. I just don’t understand it.

“I just want to pray for his family. This is so sad.”
