A BASEMENT excavation is set to spoil a normally tranquil part of Belsize Park.

The bane of many Hampstead residents' lives, the latest excavation plans at 18 Daleham Gardens are to make way for an indoor swimming pool complete with staff accommodation.

The applicant, Mr J Meaden, also wants to build a rear extension and install two sliding gates.

Neighbours have until tomorrow to register their objections to the planning application. Agents for the applicant, Gerald Barrett, declined to comment.
