1. Sunday - Mind Sports Olympiad

Annual event Mind Sports Olympiad is this year hosted at the JW3 centre in Finchley Road. Competitors will be battling it out in a number of “mind sports” and board games for the entire week. This includes different variations of chess, poker, mastermind, Scrabble, and the Memory World Cup. Other lesser-known challenges include strategy game Quoridor, “Japanese Chess” Shogi and Stratego.

Runs from August 17 to 25. Visit jw3.org.uk for a full programme of events and for how to participate.

2. Sunday - Confessions of a Rabbi’s Daughter

A critically acclaimed new musical comedy will be showing Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate Village. Confessions of a Rabbi’s Daughter is the story of Rachel Wiseman, a young woman who faces the choice between fulfilling her dream of becoming a Rabbi’s wife and her new love for friend Sarah. Rachel is torn between the demands of her Orthodox Jewish upbringing and her heart, in this fictionalized one-woman musical written and performed by Emily Rose.

Part of the Camden Fringe Festival. Starts 8pm. Tickets £12 (£10 concs). Visit upstairsatthegatehouse.com to book

There are more than 90 courses on offer for budding writers, directors, chefs, artists, mechanics, sports stars, coding whizzes and Alan Sugar-style entrepreneurs. The vast majority are accredited, allowing youngsters to improve their CV for work, university or an apprenticeship.

5. Tuesday - Messy Picnic

Art Picnics 4 Kids is an outdoors art event for two to eight-year-olds that provides children with “free flow art sessions” and a day out for all the family.

Held on the lawn opposite the Waterlow Park Centre, the arts zone features six free-standing painting boards where children can “get messy” using paint brushes, rollers, scrapers, sponge stamps, or paint-squirting syringes. The craft zone will see lots of gluing and sticking while a messy play zone for under-fives includes play dough modelling. Parents are encouraged to bring a picnic. Costs £10.
