A debate on immigration with Kelvin MacKenzie, a rare look behind-the-scenes of Buckingham Palace and an animal open day at a vet surgery are just some of the things featured in our top five this week.

1. Wednesday - Immigration debate

“The most extraordinary result in 100 years” was Nigel Farage’s verdict on UKIP’s performance in the European elections - and this sort of political earthquake was felt beyond Britain.

But what does the triumph of the National Front in France and successes for the far-right in other countries tell us about our fears and prejudices

about immigration and race?

The London Jewish Cultural Centre in North End Road, Golders Green, hosts what promises to be a heated debate on this emotive subject.

The panel includes former editor of The Sun Kelvin MacKenzie, award-winning British comedian Shazia Mirza, director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research Jonathan Portes, BBC journalist Paul Kenyon, and author Dr Edie Friedman.

It will be chaired by Jon Silverman, Professor of Media and Criminal Justice at the University of Bedfordshire and former BBC Home Affairs Correspondent.

Held on Wednesday at 8pm.

Tickets £12 (£15 on the door).

2. Thursday - Buckingham Palace

A rare behind-the-scenes look at what the Royal Family is like to work for and what Buckingham Palace was like during the 2012 Diamond Jubilee.

Zaki Cooper worked in the Buckingham Palace press office from 2009 until 2012.

He explains what the Royal Household does and also the historic and contemporary links between the monarchy and the Jewish community.

Following his illustrated talk there will be ample time for questions from the audience.

Held at the London Jewish Cultural Centre in North End Road, Golders Green.

Starts 6.30pm. Tickets £14. Pimms served on arrival.

4. Sunday - Israeli Film

The JW3 in Finchley Road hosts a number of special film screenings, the majority of which are UK Premieres for SERET 2014 - the London Israeli Film and Television Festival showcasing the best of current Israeli cinema.

This screening sees director Avi Nesher’s UK premier of new film The Wonders, which tracks the complex relationship between a Jerusalem Graffiti artist and a mysterious modern day prophet who is imprisoned in an abandoned apartment across the artist’s window. Rated 18 (in Hebrew).

Starts 1.30pm. Tickets £14 (£7 concs).
