A literary talk chaired by Melvyn Bragg, a secret Camden cake club and the South End Green Festival are just some of the things featured in our top five this week.

1. Sunday - South End Green Festival

The South End Green Festival returns for another year on Sunday to celebrate the best the Hampstead community has to offer.

Organised by local traders and residents – and with all profits going to local good causes – there will be food, drink and craft stalls as well as live music, a children’s fair, dog shows and much more.

A stage by the South End Green fountain will be showcasing some of the best music talent in the local area, as well as some bigger names, while face painting and candy floss will be available for youngsters.

The annual event usually sees about 4,000 visitors arrive for the festival and is located no more than 10 minutes away from Belsize Park and Hampstead tube stations.

Runs from 10.30am to 5pm.

Visit southendgreenfestival.org for more information.

2. Proms at St Jude’s

The Proms at St Jude’s continues with five more days packed full of music performances, walks and more.

The community festival takes place each June in the Hampstead Garden Suburb and is run by volunteers, raising money for charity.

The music programme is designed to cater for a wide range of tastes, with a focus on classical and jazz.

Walks take place across the Heath, Hampstead Garden Suburb and to the homes of Hampstead’s most famous and best-loved artists.

Visit promsatstjudes.org.uk for a full breakdown of events and where they’re being held.

3. Wednesday - Literary talk

Mr Darcy and Mr Rochester – two heart-throb characters penned by Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte – have long represented the epitome of the romantic hero. But what would they really have been like to live with?

A panel of writers, novelists and broadcasters debates the desirability – and horrors – of these two characters and whether they will always be better left on the page.

The panel includes author Lilian Pizzichini, Guardian journalist Tanya Gold, professor of English at University College London John Mullan, and novelist Fay Weldon. Chaired by broadcaster Melvyn Bragg.

Held at the London Jewish Cultural Centre, North End Road, Golders Green. Starts 8pm. Tickets £12 (£15 on the door). Visit ljcc.org.uk, or call 020 8457 5000 to book.

4. Monday - Cake Club

The Camden Clandestine Cake Club calls all baking aficionados to come to their monthly meet-up to share tips and exchange recipes. Bakers are invited to bring a whole cake (no cupcakes allowed) to their meeting, which is always held at a secret location somewhere in the borough, find out by emailing camden.cake.club@gmail.com.

Organisers are urging bakers to user their imagination and create a celebratory cake for June. You can experiment with vegetables like beetroot and courgettes, or try some light and fluffy elderflower cake.

This is a free event. Visit clandestinecakeclub.co.uk/groups/Camden for more information.

5. Wednesday - Fine Art Show

A new exhibition showing some of Dutch painter Rembrandt’s etchings opens at Sylvester Fine Art in Belsize Lane.

Somewhat outside of the gallery’s usual fare of 20th and 21st century art and artists, the Rembrandt etchings are printed from the original copper etching plates. Rembrandt was a great technical innovator and his etchings achieved the same status as his paintings.

Because his graphic work could be easily reproduced, it meant it was his etchings rather than his paintings which brought him international fame at the time. Some 72 etchings will be on display. Prices are from £1,500 to £7,500. Visit sylvesterfineart.co.uk for more information.
