Christmas at the newly refurbished Kenwood House, carol singing with the London Metropolitan Brass Band and a talk on the assassination of John F Kennedy are just some of the things in our top five this week.

SATURDAY

Christmas at Kenwood

Kenwood House is once again open for the festive season as families are invited to celebrate Christmas at its stunning grounds. Having recently undergone a £5.95million refurbishment, this promises to be a great chance to see what’s changed.

This year they will be re-imagining a 1760’s Christmas - which back then was a season of lavish balls, charitable giving and the giving of gifts. Family activities include mask making, Kenwood themed money boxes and old fashioned wreaths. It runs from 10am to 2pm, on both Saturday and Sunday.

WEDNESDAY

Kennedy Talk

With this year marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, historian and biographer Helen Fry spends an evening exploring the mystery and controversy surrounding his death.

Ms Fry, author of over 20 historical books and resident scholar at the London Jewish Cultural Centre, North End Road (where the event will be held), will be discussing whether half a century after the tragedy we are any closer to discovering the truth about what happened that day.

The talk runs from to 8-9pm. Tickets are £8 (£10 on the door).

FRIDAY

The London Metropolitan Brass Band perform their Christmas Concert, featuring music ranging from a piece accredited to Henry VIII through to Handel and some classic brass band arrangements. Special guest Elin Harries - a baroque specialist singer who trained at the Royal Academy of Music - will also be joining on stage. There will also be plenty of opportunity for the audience to enjoy and sing along to traditional carols. It is a benefit concert for the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation charity. It is held at the United Reform Church in Pond Square, Highgate and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5. Visit www.awtf.org for bookings.

FRIDAY

A line-up of Jewish comedians try and put on their version of a Christmas show at the Sir Richard Steele pub in Haverstock Hill, Belsize Park. On stage will be Adam Kay, frontman of musical comedy act Amateur Transplants, critically acclaimed Josh Howie and Candi Giggi. The show starts at 8.45pm. Tickets cost £12.50 (£10 concs).
