GCSE students will tonight enter the final hours of their nervous summer-long wait for exam results.

Tomorrow morning across the country 16-year-olds on tenterhooks will open the envelopes containing the grades of the exams they took three months ago.

For some it will be their passport to sixth form and choosing the subjects they really want to study and for others the beginning of their career in the world of work.

Last week A-level results soared to new heights and only time will tell if pupils at GCSE can achieve the same phenomenal results.

But even if they do it will probably be amid cries that exams have got easier.
