IF only Heath Street was as impervious to the elements as Thames Water seems to be to criticism, then traders might not be facing ruin as a result of December's road collapse.
It will be fascinating to see how the company deals with the avalanche of compensation claims which are presently winging their way to the Wiltshire headquarters. These should keep the company solicitors in gainful employment for some time but more immediately, they must concentrate on the 51 charges being brought by Camden Council on account of the cavalier manner in which Thames Water has been tearing up the roads and failing to reinstate them in a proper manner.
In a less enlightened age, the TW bosses would have been placed in the stocks to suffer the public humiliation they rightly deserve. How Heath Street traders would enjoy themselves were such a remedy available nowadays.
