A TEENAGER was shot with a pellet gun outside sheltered accommodation for young people in Crouch End.

The 17-year-old male victim, who has not been named, was shot in Mount View Road last Wednesday (October 15) at 8.30pm. It is understood that a pellet caused a bullet wound to his shoulder. Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital.

Residents living in Mount View Road were asked not to enter or leave their homes until the matter had been dealt with.

It is understood that there were two teenagers living in the sheltered accommodation - which is privately owned - but since this incident they have been asked to leave. The building has 24-hour support workers who supervise the teenagers living there.

The area has been blighted by anti-social behaviour in the past, with allegations of groups hanging around outside the building, throwing bottles and riding a moped up and down the road.

Sgt Bob Stevenson of Stroud Green Safer Neighbourhoods team said: "It would seem that the associates of two residents have been hanging around in the area and causing concern to the local community through anti-social behaviour and disorder.

"In our efforts to arrive at a suitable solution, we have met with neighbouring residents of Mount View Road affected by the problem and with the residents, staff and managers of the premises. We have developed a close and positive relationship with the managers and staff at the premises and will continue to work with them and the local community to keep the area safe."

Haringey Council said the building was privately owned and it was matter for the police.
