A TEENAGE getaway driver has received a suspended sentence and a driving ban for his role in a Crouch End bank raid.

Gakmar Gakmar, 18, of Aspern Grove was handed the sentence on Friday at Wood Green Crown Court after pleading guilty to robbery as well as two counts of possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

His accomplice, Jonathan Mopo, 20, of Southend Close was jailed for four years in August last year after pleading guilty to robbery.

The pair raided the Barclays bank on Crouch End Broadway around noon on May 29 last year as a security guard made a delivery to the bank.

As they drove off they had several collisions with other vehicles, resulting in Mopo becoming injured and detained by members of the public - Gakmar was arrested two weeks later.

Gakmar was handed 33 weeks in a young offenders institute for robbery and 32 weeks for the possession charges - the sentence was suspended for two years.

He will have to wear a tag for six months, complete 180 hours of unpaid work and a two-year supervision requirement, as well as having weekly meetings with the sentencing judge.
