Hampstead Heath wildlife spotters will be aware that a pair of swans are expecting a few little cygnets come the end of May.
Last week Heathman reported that the swans were guarding a respectable clutch of three eggs at their nest in the bird sanctuary pond near Highgate.
But now it seems the happy couple might be going for the all-time heath record for a swan brood – after the egg count rose to a whopping eight this week.
According to photographer and keen swan watcher Ron Vester, the record currently sits at nine.
Heathman will be watching closely for any more arrivals – and to see how the swans cope with the unenviable parenting duties.
