A decision on the future of Marylebone Magistrates Court has been deferred by the council's planning sub-committee who are keen to prevent some of the planned demolition work.
The Magistrates Court Service wants to create a new super-court in Marylebone, having already axed two other courts in Bow Street and Horseferry Road.
The plan discussed by the sub-committee on Thursday involved bulldozing the existing court building at 181 Marylebone Road - formerly Marylebone Public Baths - as well the 159-year-old County Court at 179 Marylebone Road, but not the frontage.
The developers want to replace them with a five-storey development with 10 court rooms.
However, the planning sub-committee is keen to save both facades and have asked the developers to re-think their plans.
A decision on the proposals has therefore been deferred to an as yet unspecified date.
