Hampstead Garden Suburb Horticultural Society members could barely believe their luck as the heavens smiled on their Grand Centenary Summer Garden Party.

On Saturday afternoon, 60s cover band Flashback played a set that had members dancing on the lawn at a home in Asmuns Hill, surrounded by lush green plants and beautiful colourful flowers.

Spokeswoman Marjorie Harris said: "It was a huge success - everyone was dancing away and it was great fun.

"We had nearly 100 people at the party to mark 100 years and it went on past 10pm.

"The sun shone and it was dry. The weather was ghastly the next day - but we seem to be extremely lucky with the weather for all of our centenary celebrations."

The next item on the society's calendar is the Autumn Show on September 12 when the Grimsdyke Brass Band will play at the Free Church Hall in Hampstead Garden Suburb.

Mrs Harris added: "Residents will be asked to bring apples to the show from their gardens for identification by an expert."
