Children at an award-winning Kentish Town nursery were treated to ice creams, face painting and professional storytelling at a summer party on Saturday.

Montpelier Community Nursery, in Brecknock Road, Kentish Town, celebrated receiving national recognition from the RIBA architecture awards for the design of its new building and its freshly landscaped gardens.

The Mayor of Camden, Cllr Jonathan Simpson, was on hand to open the event, along with several local councillors, while children’s author Algy Craig-Hall read a selection of stories and held drawing workshops.

Current nursery pupils as well as older children who used to attend the centre jumped at the chance to try out the new facilities, including a tree house.

Trustee and parent Penny Liechti said: “It’s important for a community nursery to get involved in the community.”
