More than 3,000 people took to Hampstead Heath at the weekend despite gloomy overhead conditions to enjoy the annual Give It A Go! festival.

Revellers tried their hand at a wide range of different sports and activities against the backdrop of the leafy open space at the event on Sunday, which has become a permanent fixture in the Heath calendar.

Music at the bandstand provided by rock and roll group The Bruvvers and reggae band Sista Beloved also got crowds up on their feet..

Bob Warnock, the City of London Corporation’s Superintendent at Hampstead Heath, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people come to the Heath to enjoy sports and physical activities.

“One in three children in the UK is now overweight, while one in five is obese.

“We are proud to support a range of sports on Hampstead Heath, and encouraging young people to get active is especially important to us.

“The Heath is crucial in providing public sporting opportunities to Londoners, and promoting health and wellbeing here is very much part of our ethos.”

From climbing and martial arts to football and rugby, families were spoilt for choice with a wide range of activities available to try at the festival at Parliament Hill organised by the City in partnership with Camden Council and local organisations.

Entertainers from Zippos Circus also proved highly popular with the crowds, who watched their daredevil aerial tricks.

Cllr Abdul Hai, Camden Council’s cabinet member for customers, communities and culture said: “The day proved to be a great success with the opportunity for all who attended to try out a wide range of sports and activities, and find out more if they discovered an activity that they enjoyed.”

Give It A Go! is part of a year-round programme of activities on offer for Camden residents.
