Award-winning American violinist Tai Murray opened the Hampstead Arts Festival with a solo performance at St Stephen’s in Rosslyn Hill, Belsize Park.
The rising star of the classical world performed the complete set of Bach’s works for unaccompanied violin and several pieces by the late American composer Elliot Carter.
The show was held on Sunday where Ms Murray, whose most recent recording is up for the Edison music award, will return for another performance this coming Sunday.
Tania Halban, the festival’s spokesman, said: “I have never heard Tai playing before but she was amazing, very lyrical, and there was something very natural and unaffected about her performance.”
The Hampstead Arts Festival runs until December 3 and the programme also features concerts by the Brodsky Quartet, former Labour leader Neil Kinnock and Melvyn Bragg in conversation to celebrate the life and work of Michael Foot, and Ham&High music critic Michael White discussing Benjamin Britten.
