With the Post Office proposing to close the St John’s Wood Post Office and replace it with a franchise-run branch, the Communication Workers’ Union (CWU) are calling on local residents to boycott the shop which will run the franchies, SW Foods on Charlbert Street.
Local CWU representative Huw Davies said: “St. John’s Wood Crown Post Office is an essential part of the local economy. It’s a valuable asset to the area and is relied upon by local residents and businesses as well as people who collect their pensions and benefits here.
“There are hundreds of people who come to this office every day and we simply don’t think that the same service could be matched by a few serving positions in the back of another shop.”
The Campaign to Save St John’s Wood Post Office is now asking locals to boycott SW Foods as part of their efforts to change the Post Office’s mind.
The Post Office is running a consultation on the move until September 19.
