Bus stop closures in St John’s Wood caused by emergency Thames Water water main works have left one St John’s Wood woman furious at how hard it now is to get between Lords cricket ground and Finchley Road by bus.

Two stops on Wellington Road – at Lords and St John’s Wood station, have been closed.

This means that Michele Selwyn, a Wellington Road resident, has found she would have to walk half a mile in order to catch a bus northbound.

Michele told the Wood&Vale: “There’ve been issues for months but this is ridiculous. I’m on crutches at the moment and it’s impossible to catch a bus north from Wellington Road.”

The stops have been closed as Thames Water’s work means buses and HGVs are unable to travel along the road. Bus routes including the numbers 13, 46, 113 and 187 are all being diverted.

While the issue has been exacerbated by the emergency works outside of St John’s Wood station, Michele explained that works which have been ongoing on the same water main on West End Lane have been causing transport disruption for “months”.

She explained: “The West End Lane water works have been ongoing for months.

“Matters with Thames Water are getting totally out of hand. with the closed bus stops and the entire Finchley Road in lockdown.”

“Thames Water are causing tremendous disruption to all public transport.”

Queen’s Park councillor Paul Dimoldenberg has taken up the case. He told this newspaper: “I will keep pressing the council and Thames Water until this problem is fixed.”

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for the delays works to repair our pipes in the area have caused. These were emergency repair jobs to help protect water supplies for residents, and we’re working hard to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.

“We understand works like these can be frustrating, and would like to thank residents for their patience.”
