A HEARTBROKEN son has made a plea to help catch his dad's killer on the fifth anniversary of his murder.

Thomas Breen was stabbed to death in Camden Town on August 10 2002. At the time the area was labelled murder mile because of a spate of fatal stabbings but Mr Breen's is the only one yet to be solved.

His son Stephen Breen has revealed how a letter sent to police pointed the finger at two individuals but due to a lack of evidence nobody has ever been charged with murder.

He said: "We have nothing ag-ainst the family and friends of tho-se who did this but if they could see the devastation it has caused our family then maybe it would prompt them to come forward.

"The police know who did this, we know who did this but there has not been enough evidence.

"We always have hope that one day they will be brought to justice, they will have to answer to God. I just think someone has to pay for the damage they have caused us.

"Five years down the line it is still not too late for people just to make one phone call."

In January last year Belfast-based journalist Stephen appeared on Crimewatch after the letter was sent but the killers remain at large.

He said: "We would appeal for the person who wrote the letter to get in touch again. The people who did this have been boasting and think they have got away with it. It just takes one person to come forward and say 'they have told me about this.'"

He added: "It's five years but to be honest it just seems as if it was yesterday, especially when the anniversary comes up.

"You go through the whole process of what happened that night. It's always there but when the day comes round, that's the day my dad died."

Mr Breen lived with his wife Lorraine in Downpatrick in Northern Ireland and regularly worked as a scaffolder in London.

The 50-year-old had spent the day of his murder in Camden Town, at one point speaking to a campaigner from action group Mothers Against Murder And Aggression (Mamaa).

At about 10pm that night it is believed he and a friend were caught up in a fight with two men outside the Elephant's Head pub in Hawley Crescent.

He died from a single stab wound.

His friend suffered a superficial stab wound in the incident.

The man who is believed to have stabbed both victims is described as white, 30, 5ft 10ins and wearing a black jacket.

There is a £20,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that leads to a conviction.

If you can help call the incident room on 020-8785 8244 or, to remain anonymous, Crimestop-pers on 0800 555 111.
