A jeweller who had tens of thousands of pounds of jewellery stolen in a “Hatton Garden style” raid said he “feels like giving up” after the burglary last week.

Raiders used a sledgehammer to smash through a passageway next door to T Jewellery, in Crouch End Broadway, on Thursday morning.

Police believe a single burglar, acting as part of a group, cleared the front window of the shop and disappeared.

Among the items taken were gold and silver earrings, necklaces and rings.

The owner, who has asked not to be named, told the Ham&High it was a huge blow for the business.

“We’ve spent 17 years building up the front window, and getting stock,” he said.

“When I got in on Thursday morning and saw what had happened, I was shocked. I couldn’t believe they actually came in through the wall.”

It’s believed the method has been used to break into jewellers elsewhere in London.

While the hole in the wall has now been fixed, a reinforced plate will now be added for extra security.

The shop, which opened in the Broadway in 2005, will also be installing a device that lets out smoke if it detects a break-in.

“I feel absolutely deflated,” the jeweller added. “I don’t want to do it any more, but we’re not going to close. We’ll build up the front window again, but not as much as it was before.”

Other shops have been burgled in Crouch End recently.

The Haberdashery was broken into two months ago, while a nearby takeaway was reportedly raided around the same time.

The jeweller said more police are needed on the streets, adding: “There is too much crime around.”

Scotland Yard is not currently linking the break-ins, but “has an open mind”, according to a spokesperson.

Nobody has been arrested.
