A 15-year-old singer-songwriter who has only performed to a crowd a handful of times will take to the stage in front of nearly 10,000 people at Saturday’s Fair in the Square.

Joss Littler, of Whitehall Park, Highgate, may not have broken many hearts yet but that doesn’t stop him penning melodic ballads about love and relationships on his acoustic guitar.

The City of London School for Boys pupil admitted to feeling “pretty nervous” ahead of his solo performance on the main stage in Pond Square at the Highgate Village festival on Saturday, despite also singing at last year’s fair.

“It all gets better when you get up on the stage,” Joss said. “It is nerve-wracking but it’s fun.

“I would love to do it as my career, it’s definitely at the top of my list.”

He added: “Highgate’s a great place to perform as it’s my local fair and it’s really the start of something big for me.

“You’ve got to start somewhere and the fair is not a small thing at all – it’s a big thing.”

Revision for his end of year exams has not got in the way of rehearsals as Joss, who has been writing songs since he was five, is determined to make it as big as his idol, Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin.

The teenager is one of nearly 20 acts performing on the Pond Square stage, with the Hornsey School for Girls’ steel band kicking off the entertainment at 12.30pm.

The cast from Upstairs at the Gatehouse theatre’s production of The Blonde Bombshells will sing at 3.50pm while Joss takes to the stage at 4.20pm.

Children from the Loop Academy of Performing Arts, based at Highgate Primary School in Storey Road, will hit the stage at 2.40pm and have called on their patron, Coronation Street’s Marc Baylis, to introduce them.

Highgate resident Mr Baylis, who plays murderer Rob Donovan in the ITV soap opera, said: “I just believe in what the school is doing.

“More than anything else it was the atmosphere in the school and the ethos that compelled me to become further involved.”

The popular dancing sheep show, Punch and Judy, traditional morris dancers and St Michael’s Church choir will also perform in front of St Michael’s Church in South Grove.
