Mitzvah Day volunteers from Hampstead were among those taking part in Sewa Day – a Hindu day of community action – in Kingsbury, Brent this weekend.

As part of the run up to Mitzvah Day, the organisation’s interfaith chair Lady Daniela Pears got her hands dirty, with her dog Ruby, to help volunteers of from the Jewish and Hindu faiths to clean up Fryent Country Park.

Lady Daniela said: “It was wonderful working with our Hindu friends on Sewa Day, where Ruby and I helped clear bracken from the poplar trees to encourage the natural habitat to grow freely.”

John Barrington, chair of the Barn Hill Conservation Group - who look after the park – added: “We always look forward to the annual visits from the Sewa Day team.”

The Mitzvah Day team joined the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh group on Sewa day, a month ahead of its Jewish equivalent.

Mitzvah day, the biggest faith-based day of community action takes place on November 18.
