The brigade was called at 4.24pm to a blaze behind Kosher Kingdom in Russell Parade.
The fire, which damaged three quarters of the warehouse, was under control by 9.06pm but the brigade remained overnight to dampen down the scene.
Debbie Colman, who lives in Russell Gardens, said: "I had settled down to watch Deal or no Deal at 4.15pm when I saw smoke bellowing in my garden. There was masses of smoke and in 10 seconds, I couldn't see my garden anymore. We all got evacuated straight away."
