Activists are calling upon Haringey Council to take in Syrian refugees.

Campaign group Refugees Welcome Haringey are organising an evening of live middle eastern music and talks.

Catherine West, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, will be joined by Allaa Barri from Human Care Syria, Indira Kartallozi, a Kosovan refugee and advice worker, and actors narrating personal testimonies from refugees who are living in Haringey.

The event marks the five-year anniversary of the first mass protest in Syria that led to devastating civil war.

Rose Bernstein, coordinator of Refugees Welcome Haringey said: “Haringey Council is so far refusing to take part in the Vulnerable Person Resettlement scheme – which means it still won’t accept refugees – and we don’t think that’s right.”

- The event will be held on March 15 at 7pm at Hornsey Town Hall.
