QPR are keen to secure a loan deal for Tottenham youngster Harry Kane, after Harry Redknapp revealed he made an approach for the striker on transfer deadline day.

England Under-21 international Kane agreed to join QPR on loan when it appeared Rangers forward Andy Johnson was set to sign for Crystal Palace in the hours before the deadline.

QPR pulled the plug on Johnson’s move at the last minute, with Kane staying at White Hart Lane as a result, but Redknapp believes a loan deal could still be possible.

A move may, however, hinge on the whereabouts of fellow Spurs forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who has asked Tottenham to give him a £1million pay-off to leave the club.

“It may still happen, I was going to take Harry on the deadline when AJ looked like he was going to Crystal Palace,” said Redknapp.

“Could it still happen? It depends, if [Emmanuel] Adebayor is not in their squad then they only have two strikers, [Jermain] Defoe and [Roberto] Soldado.

“Harry is third choice, but if they feel he needs games then they might do. It certainly didn’t do Andros [Townsend] any harm last year.”

Crystal Palace are understood to be weighing up a second bid for Johnson when the transfer window re-opens in January, and Redknapp believes a move would suit the striker.

The manager also hinted at concerns over Johnson’s poor injury record, with the former Everton man having to miss Saturday’s win over Birmingham with a knee injury.

He added: “I was resigned to losing Andy that night. It was a good move for him on a long contract. He missed all last season, is he going to stay fit?”
