The rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits at the South End Green Christmas Festival in Hampstead.

Choirs and brass bands from Gospel Oak School in Gospel Oak and Fleet Primary in Hampstead braved the wet conditions to sing and play to a crowd of 100 people on Tuesday afternoon.

The rain persisted though, forcing organisers to cancel the last choir performance from Mixed Voice Chorus. But determined to perform, the group found shelter in Marks&Spencer and performed to shoppers.

The historic South End Green fountain was lit up and decorated with wire figurines of Greek goddesses by students at the Hampstead School of Art in Hampstead as a replacement Christmas tree.

David Kitchen, chairman of the South End Green Association, said: “The kids were so keen and bubbly and enthusiastic, despite the rain.”
