A brave female pub manager was stabbed in the stomach as she leapt to the defence of a 19-year-old youth who was being chased by a gang of young thugs.

The six attackers - aged between 12 and 16 - pursued their terrified victim into the Elgin Pub on last Friday night.

The young man sought protection by diving behind the bar, while 21-year-old Rebecka Lundgren tackled the armed mob.

She managed to stop them carrying out their attack despite being threatened by one of the youths and stabbed in the stomach with a broken umbrella.

"The guy came flying through the pub and hid behind the bar shouting to call the police," she said.

"He was shaking badly he was that scared.

"The boys said they were going to go after me if I didn't take him out to them.

"But I couldn't have lived with myself if I did that.

"So I stood on the outside of the front door to stop them getting in because you can't push the door closed from the inside.

"They started to say they were going to kill, stab and punch him and that if I didn't move they were going to get me and then him.

"Eventually they went to the other side of the road but then one of them ran over and stabbed me in the stomach with an umbrella that had the end broken off.

"I was left with scratches and grazes but it could have been much worse."

Ruari Johnson, 28, was at the pub enjoying a quiet pint when the trouble started.

He said: "I was just sitting there with a couple of mates and was just about to take a bite out of my burger when all hell broke lose.

"This kid ran past, looking as white as a sheet and jumped over the bar then disappeared.

"The next thing I knew about six little youths came in the side door some armed with glasses obviously looking to do some serious damage to the other kid. Luckily for him they couldn't find him.

"As soon as they went outside we locked the doors. These young lads looked pretty cheesed off at something."

A police spokesman said: "We were called to the bar on Elgin Avenue but the yobs had already run off and no arrests were made. Their petrified target was still reluctant to leave alone and officers gave him a police escort to make sure he got home safely.
