The manager of a Primrose Hill convenience store used a bit of creative flair to raise money for a newly-opened special needs school.
Customers picking up groceries at Fabs Food & Wine over the last month will have struggled to miss the mustachioed plastic pig sitting on the counter.
Store manager Ihatasham-ul-Haq, 30, decided to take fundraising into his own hands after receiving the piggy bank, part of the Pigs4Kids campaign backed by the Ham&High, to raise money for the new Swiss Cottage School and Development & Research Centre, in Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage.
He said: “I put some painting on the pig, I made its hair blue and painted a moustache to attract the customers.
“I also painted the ears blue and put some dimples on the cheeks. The customers think it’s a toy but I tell them it’s for charity.”
The store, in Primrose Hill Road, is one of the latest businesses to fill up a Pigs4Kids piggy bank and return it to the Ham&High’s offices.
They have since received a fresh piggy bank ready for more spare change donated by generous members of the public.
He added: “As part of the community where you live, everyone should get involved with charity – it’s a good thing and this is also a local thing.”
The Ham&High is asking readers to raise �60,000 for the campaign to support the new Development & Research Centre at the school which opened on October 25.
