Fair and balanced news coverage has always been an ideal this paper strives towards. But Heathman understands only too well the frustrations felt by those behind a new community magazine covering Ed Miliband’s former neighbourhood of Primrose Hill when they tried – but failed – to produce a balanced article on “the pros and cons of the mansion tax”.

The article was to appear in On the Hill magazine, which launched in November last year. One of its writers told Heathman: “We wanted to do pieces on issues affecting the community, giving both sides a voice. For hours I tried – and failed – to find just one supporter of Labour’s proposals in Primrose Hill. Everyone opposed it. We’ve had to push back the piece until next month. Or until I find someone.”

It came as trade publication Mortgage Introducer reported that the change in stamp duty and the potential threat of the mansion tax “are contributing to instability in the prime central London property market”, with less homes sold.

Primrose Hill was listed in the top five “worst affected areas”.
