An author is donating 50p from every sale of his latest book to support the relief effort in the Philippines in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan.

Primrose Hill-based novelist Michael Arditti chose to donate a portion of his sales to the British Red Cross for their aid work in the Philippines because his latest novel, The Breath of Night, is set in the country.

He said he wants to give something back to the place that helped inspire him to write his novel, which was published at the end of July.

Mr Arditti, who has lived in Regent’s Park Road for 26 years, said: “It was a terrible thing. [The donation] is a gesture but a gesture that means something to me. I owe them a great deal.

“However little money we raise, it means quite a lot there. Anything we are able to contribute will be nothing to what the Philippines contributed to me.”
