Primary school children and their parents formed a giant “walking bus” to show the need for a safer pedestrian crossing near their school.

More than 100 waved banners and placards as they walked from Highgate General Practice in North Hill to Highgate Primary School in Storey Road last week.

They joined tens of thousands of children across the UK who took part in road safety charity Brake’s annual Giant Walking Bus march that aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of traffic near primary schools last Wednesday.

Parents started the North Hill Nightmare campaign for a safer crossing at the junction of Church Road and View Road about six months ago.

Parent governor Charley Allan, 41, of Shepherds’s Hill, Highgate, said: “We thought the national campaign tied in perfectly as a school and as a community to highlight the danger of the crossing.”
