Traffic wardens have called off plans to strike after a long running dispute was settled.

Union Unison dropped a five-day strike set to start on Monday and an indefinite overtime ban in place since August for wardens employed by Camden Council’s parking enforcement contractor NSL.

The settlement made last week results in a four per cent pay rise on the hourly rate of £8.09 backdated to September 1.

Wardens get a further three pc pay rise next April and another three pc in April 2014, taking the hourly rate to £8.92.

George Binette, of Unison, said: “Of course, the outcome is disappointing in some respects, but given the cold climate for trade unionism in Britain it is also a real achievement.”
