POLICE in Muswell Hill carried out a three-day operation to tackle motor vehicle crime following a recent spate of car break-ins.

Officers from Safer Neighbourhood Teams patrolled the area in unmarked police vehicles last week and carried out 52 stop and searches.

Sergeant Dave Bird, of the Fortis Green Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "This kind of operation will continue across the ward, targeting suspects using a range of covert and overt tactics as well as making people less likely to be the victim of this kind of crime by giving advice. We will use every tactic at our disposal to reduce motor vehicle crime in Haringey borough."

Detective Superintendent Simon Sherlock, of the Motor Vehicle Squad, said: "Theft from motor vehicle crime in Haringey has risen by 13 per cent this year compared to the same period last year.

"When leaving your vehicle, please ensure you remove all valuables including sat navs and wipe away the suction mark, as this can provide a clue to a thief that your vehicle may contain this high value item.
