Families and volunteers gathered on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the annual summer picnic organised by the Hampstead Garden Suburb Residents Association.

The Summer Picnic Fun Day, opened by journalist and former MP Martin Bell, 75, took place at Central Square, beside St Jude-on-the-Hill and Hampstead Garden Suburb Free Church.

Attractions included face painting, a Punch and Judy performance, and light entertainment courtesy of the Sam Braysher Jazz Quartet.

David Littaur, chairman of the events committee and the Hampstead Garden Suburb Residents Association, said: “It went marvellously, because it wasn’t a very warm day. There were a lot of people, and a wonderful lot of children.

“Latecomers had some drinks when they arrived, some Pimms, or whatever they wanted, and some people had picnic tables. I think everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
